State Fair of West Virginia
DockDogs Participant Access & Site Guidelines
To ensure the safety of guests, participants, and animals during the State Fair of West Virginia, all DockDogs competitors are asked to follow the procedures below.
Dog Restrictions
- All dogs must remain within the designated DockDogs competition area at all times.
- Dogs are not permitted to walk or roam the fairgrounds, even while on a leash.
- Participants are responsible for ensuring their dogs remain under control and within the DockDogs footprint except during arrival and departure.
Arrival & Check-In
- Enter the fairgrounds through Gate 5 (Livestock Entrance – see attached).
- Proceed slowly and cautiously, keeping to the right, until you reach the DockDogs area.
- After unloading your dogs and kenneling equipment, exit the grounds through Gate 1 (Fair Street – see attached).
Participant Admission
Before moving your vehicle to the designated parking area, walk to Gate 1 (see attached) to obtain your participant wristband or hand stamp. This will allow you to re-enter the fairgrounds after parking.
Parking
- There is a limited number of spaces that we are making available to the DD competitors located in the Gold Lot, adjacent to Gate 1 on Fair Street (see attached), which is closest to the pool. These spaces are to be scheduled and assigned by DockDogs on-site event staff for participants that have multiple dogs first before any participants with single dogs competing. These spots will be filled according to the DockDogs event staff on a first come first serve basis based on the set-up times (see below).
- The spaces in the Gold Lot are NOT to have tents, canopies or any extra kenneling materials attached to the vehicles, next to the vehicles or around the vehicles parked so not to take up any space designated for vehicle parking. All kenneling should be in the designated kenneling area behind the dock and pool set-up of DockDogs in that designated space.
- Once the Gold Lot has been filled, the remaining participant parking is located in the Main Parking Lot (see attached).
Gate Information
- Gate 5 (Livestock Entrance) is staffed 24 hours a day and is the designated entrance for DockDogs participants.
- Gate 1 (Fair Street Gate) becomes a pedestrian entrance beginning at 7:00 AM each day. Vehicles should use Gate 1 only as an exit. Please use extreme caution and yield to pedestrians when exiting.
- Any participant not exercising patience and caution around pedestrians or livestock will be asked to leave the grounds.
Set-up Times
Participants should complete unloading, setting up kenneling and vehicle parking no later than 10AM or two (2) hours before the first scheduled DockDogs activity expected to attract spectators, whichever comes first. This helps ensure a safe environment before public traffic increases.
Departure
After the final DockDogs event of the day:
- Re-enter the fairgrounds through Gate 5 with your vehicle.
- Retrieve your dogs and kenneling equipment.
- Exit the fairgrounds through Gate 1 (Fair Street).
General Notes
These procedures are in place to maintain the safety of our guests, participants, and animals while minimizing conflicts with pedestrian traffic during the State Fair. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to welcoming you to the State Fair of West Virginia.
